SLF has evolved over a number of years into a visionary and collaborative organisation. SLF was formed as an organisation in 2000. This followed the collaboration of a number of individuals who had been working on complementary projects in Victoria and Queensland. An initial collaboration produced the eminent and pivotal community event – the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair. This event catalysed and consolidated community interest in sustainable living. A number of key people committed to filling the vacuum created by a lack of government leadership in sustainable living and became involved with the organisation.
A number of key elements collided at this time. The absence of significant state or federal political leadership, the lack of political vision, and the abandonment of existing Environmental Non Government Organisations (ENGOs) all prompted action. A need for a ‘positive, solution-orientated’ organisation was identified as a priority. This organisation would promote sustainable living and effectively engage the wider community. Thus, the early identity of SLF was formed.
SLF has been developing a range of major platforms to communicate its vision to the community. We facilitate many projects and initiatives covering a wide range of areas relating to sustainability, both locally and nationally.
